Vintage traditional moroccan rug - honey, blue - Glaoui - 160x400cm / 5.2x13.1feet

I sourced this beautiful rug during a recent trip to the Souss Massa region in Morocco. These rugs called "Glaoui", from the Glaoua tribe in the High Atlas, are known for showing several techniques in one single piece. The rug is both woven, knotted and embroidered which gives it a great texture: the beige and dark brown parts are flatweave and the colorful strips are a soft, low to medium pile.

This one is quite spectacular, (almost) perfectly symetrical, harmonious in its composition. The highlight of this rug being the serie of indigo blue stars in its middle part, surrounded by traditional amazigh designs like crosses and berber fibulas.

The colors were subtly alterated with sun, you can tell from the back side, that shows brighter red. People here in Morocco give their rugs sunbathes on the houses facades from time to time. It gives the rug that beautiful and unique honey color, mixed with beige, blue, faded red, mint green...

The rug is made of wool 100%.
