This beautiful azilal rug was sourced in the village of Aït Bouguemez, High Atlas, Morocco, an area that is also called "La Vallée Heureuse" (Happy Valley). Vintage, handmade azilal rugs are usually small or narrow pieces and I was quite surprised by the size of this one. I also love when a vintage rug comes with this unregular series of diamonds pattern. Diamond is know to be a recurrent feminine symbol when it comes to moroccan rugs. This one also shows some medallions with spots inside that may be about pregnancy. After all, these real moroccan rugs are a way for berber women to silently "talk" about their life and express their deep feelings with humbleness and creativity.

The main background color is a beige (undyied sheep wool color) with black, blue, red and turquoise green designs.

Handmade 100%, this rug is made of wool and cotton threads and is a medium pile. It is quite thick though, super soft and comfortable underfeet!

Approximate dimensions are 6x9.5feet (+4inches tassels) / 183x290cm (+10cm tassels).
The rug has not been cut and is in its original shape.

Please note that this small rug is real vintage, meaning that it's been made first for private use, not directly for the market. It will come with signs of wear which make it unique and charming. That said, it has been cleaned and is in great vintage condition!

Pictures were taken in my bright and all white studio with light grey floors in Marrakech. They have been edited but colors are accurate. Please take time to check all detailed pictures, so you can see the beautiful work of this rug!
